Maccabi Tel Aviv Secure Second Preseason Win at Neofytos Chandriotis Tournament 2026

Maccabi Tel Aviv continued their impressive form in the preseason by securing a second consecutive victory at the Neofytos Chandriotis Tournament 2026. The team, under head coach Oded Kattash, defeated domestic rivals Maccabi Tapuzina Rishon LeZion with 95 points scored, showcasing smooth offensive execution. Although details about the opponent's score are not yet available, this victory underlines the squad depth of the Tel Aviv-based club. Notably, five players scored in double figures, reflecting well-distributed and effective ball movement within Kattash's offensive system. Roman Sorkin stood out with a flawless shooting night, converting all 8 field goal attempts for 19 points and 5 rebounds. His performance suggests that Sorkin, a key frontcourt presence, is entering the season in great shape and confidence. However, it is important to note that this is only a friendly game, and Rishon LeZion are not considered as strong as EuroLeague opponents. Additionally, the match marked the debuts of two important signings: Yam Madar and Daniel Theis. Madar, the young Israeli guard returning from abroad, recorded 7 points and 4 assists. Meanwhile, Theis, a 34-year-old veteran center, scored only 4 points, but his impact may not be fully reflected in statistics, particularly on the defensive end. Other players such as Jaylen Hoard, Oshae Brissett, Keaton Wallace, Shane Hunter, Bonzie Colson II, and Gabriel Iffe Lundberg also contributed to the team's varied lineup. Although specific stats are unavailable, the balanced scoring is a positive signal for Kattash ahead of the new campaign. However, experts suggest caution in overvaluing these results. A preseason game in a small tournament is not an accurate measure of a team's true strength. The upcoming opponents in this competition—Aris, Olympiacos, and Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet—will provide tougher challenges and serve as a real test for Maccabi's ambitions. The official season will kick off with an Israeli Supercup clash against Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv. Kattash and his players must make the most of the preseason to refine their rotation, build chemistry, and establish a solid fitness foundation for a long season with multiple objectives. The return of Yam Madar as a playmaker, combined with Daniel Theis's experience in the paint, offers hope for fans. Nevertheless, as Coach Kattash has often emphasized, blending the pieces takes time. Upcoming games will provide opportunities to experiment with different tactical approaches. Basketball is a sport of consistency and team spirit. Maccabi Tel Aviv appears to be moving in the right direction, but only time and tougher opponents will tell whether they can compete at the EuroLeague level.
